Audi’s first mass-production electric car: ‘e-tron Quattro SUV’
With German automaker Audi’s electric vehicle (EV) efforts now underway, as is evident from an early peek at its first mass-produced electric car -- the ‘e-tron quattro SUV’ -- in Berlin recently, a Digital Trends report has revealed that the automaker plans to bring 10 battery-powered cars to the market by 2025.
Highlighting Audi’s electric vehicle (EV) plans for the next seven years, the Digital Trends report said that the automaker is hopeful that electrified vehicles -- including pure EVs, hybrids, and mild hybrids -- will account for 30% of its total sales at the end of the seven-year period.
With the e-tron quattro SUV, scheduled to be introduced in August, to set the momentum rolling for Audi in terms of its planned EV offensive, it is being projected that the production of the SUV will likely commence before the end of 2018, at a plant located on the outskirts of Brussels. The SUV is expected to arrive in the showrooms in 2019.
According to the details shared by Audi, the e-tron quattro SUV will ride on an electrified evolution of the automaker’s widely-used MLB platform, and will be equipped with a 95-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The SUV will be offering 248 mile range and fast charging option.
Though Audi has not yet shared the details about all the 10 EVs that it plans to launch by 2025, the company has disclosed that its second EV, following the e-tron quattro SUV, is tentatively named e-tron Sportback.
