Automobili Pininfarina plans to launch high-end, all-electric hypercar in 2020
Automobili Pininfarina has announced that it has efforts underway to launch a high-end, all-electric hypercar in the year 2020. The electric hypercar has been codenamed ‘PF-Zero’, and it could mark an evolution of Pininfarina’s existing H2 Speed Concept.
The confirmation by Pininfarina about its plans to launch an electric hypercar comes nearly two-and-a-half years after the takeover of the renowned Italian design house by India's Mahindra Group in 2015. Automobili Pininfarina is the design house’s newly-launched car brand which will be spearheaded by Michael Perschke, ex-boss of Audi India.
The ‘PF-Zero’ codenamed electric hypercar which Automobili Pininfarina has scheduled for a 2020 launch will use Formula E racing technology borrowed from its parent company Mahindra’s FIA entree.
In confirming its plans to launch the electric hypercar, Automobili Pininfarina said that the hypercar can be considered as the halo product of the company, which will launch some other all-electric vehicles also in the future.
With a last-month Autocar scoop having disclosed that the modular underpinnings Automobili Pininfarina’s all-electric hypercar will be jointly developed by the Mahindra Racing Formula E team and Croatian electric supercar manufacturer Rimac, Anand Mahindra -- Chairman of Mahindra Group -- has stated that the hypercar will be an “innovative and pioneering product” boasting an amalgamation of “power, beauty and high-end EV technology.”
