Chinese EV maker Kandi enters US with launch of EX3 and K22 electric vehicles
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Kandi has recently marked its official foray into the US market, with the launch of two new EVs --- the EX3 all-electric SUV, and the K22 subcompact electric car. Both the EVs were launched by Kandi in Texas last week.
The move by Kandi makes it the latest Chinese EV maker to enter the US market. The EX3 and K22 EVs recently launched by the automaker in Texas are the ‘updated for US’ versions of both the EVs which are already available in China. The pricing and the expected US availability timeline for the two EVs have not yet been disclosed by Kandi.
Kandi is closely linked to Chinese automaker Geely. As part of its preparation to enter the US market, Kandi had acquired Texas-based ATV dealer and distributor Sportsman Country earlier in 2018. The EX3 and K22 have been launched by Kandi in Texas in partnership with Sportsman Country.
About the US launch of EX3 and K22, Kandi CEO Hu Xiaoming said that both the EVs are expected to be “very competitive in America.”
Xiaoming also asserted that the US launch of the EX3 and K22 is a result of the “efficiency and diligence in our technical staff and US sales team,” and added: “It took our team less than a month to complete the upgrades necessary to comply with US standards. We will continue our efforts to expand our US market.”
