Elon Musk expects Tesla Semi production version to have nearly 600-mile range
At Tesla’s Q1 2018 earnings call this week, the electric vehicle manufacturer’s CEO Elon Musk said that he is expecting an approximate 600-mile range for the Tesla Semi electric truck. Earlier, Tesla was claiming that its electric semi truck would have a 500 miles range but the new information shared by Tesla CEO comes as a positive surprise.
Musk’s expectations of the Tesla Semi production version’s range closer to 600 miles on a single charge are a further substantiation of his earlier-this-year remarks that he is “feeling optimistic” that Tesla Semi production version will beat the specifications which the company had announced for the vehicle at its 2017 unveiling event.
Tesla Motors is currently conducting on-road tests of the prototypes of its electric Semi truck. As such, there have been reports of frequent spotting of the trucks over the last few months.
Although several auto industry experts and analysts are doubtful that Tesla will be able to achieve the projected specifications of the electric semi trucks with existing battery technology, Musk has asserted that a high range will be achievable by the forthcoming vehicles with the energy density of the current batteries.
Musk further insisted that there is no need for a battery breakthrough to enable upcoming vehicles to achieve a high range, and added that it is possible to manufacture “a truck with 500 miles of range right now.”
