Elon Musk says Tesla may accelerate its Pickup program
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has recently said that the electric vehicle maker may speed up its Pickup program, with the possibility that the electric pickup truck may be introduced sooner than previously projected.
While hinting at the possible acceleration of Tesla Pickup truck rollout, Musk has once again indicated that the pickup truck is his “personal favourite” for the next electric vehicle (EV) to be manufactured by Tesla Motors. At present, Tesla’s key priority is the Model Y, which is scheduled for unveiling in 2019 and will hit production in 2020.
Musk’s apparent keenness to bring the Tesla Pickup truck to the market is probably rooted in the fact that an electric pickup truck has increasingly become a crucial vehicle for boosting EV adoption in the US. Already, the rising sales of trucks are messing with the country’s targets for reducing emission levels.
On account of the evident need for electrification of pickup trucks, Musk had said in a last-week interview that Tesla is mulling the chances of leading simultaneous development programs for different EVs.
With regard to an electric pickup truck being developed by Tesla, Musk has already disclosed that the automaker has planned certain features for the truck, including a Dual Motor All-wheel-drive powertrain with dynamic suspension, an option for 400-500 miles of range, and ‘300,000 lbs of towing capacity.’ In addition, Musk has also sought suggestions for other features which Tesla should add to its pickup truck.
