Hyundai warns dealers about low availability of Ioniq Electric due to ‘battery shortage’
According to a memo reportedly sent by Hyundai to its dealers, the availability of the automaker’s Ioniq Electric -- an all-electric version of the Ioniq -- is low, because of a ‘global battery shortage.’ The Hyundai Ioniq Electric is considered the ‘most efficient passenger car,’ and it has a relatively low price.
Hyundai’s memo to the dealers, hinting at limited production of the Ioniq Electric, was recently obtained by Electrek.
Via the memo, Hyundai has officially informed the dealers about the low availability of Ioniq Electric. The memo substantiates a number of reports making rounds over the past few months about buyers not being able to successfully get their hands on the vehicle.
In the memo to the dealers, Hyundai has stated that “the sold order entry system for 18MY IONIQ EV will be closed effective immediately.” Revealing that the move is a result of “a temporary global battery supply shortage,” Hyundai has further added in the memo that the “19MY IONIQ EV will be opened at the same time to allow pre-sale of the 19MY IONIQ EV with deliveries in July.”
Furthermore, Hyundai has also mentioned in the memo that the Ioniq HEV and PHEV has a “good inventory level,” and has suggested that the dealers should push these two vehicles instead of the presently-limited-in-supply Ioniq Electric.
