Kia Niro EV scheduled for launch in Singapore in early 2019
According to reports, automaker Kia has efforts underway to launch its Niro EV -- a battery-powered version of the Kia Niro -- in Singapore in early 2019.
The forthcoming launch of the Niro EV in Singapore will mark a notable new addition to the country’s EV market. With EVs from Hyundai and Renault already available in the country, the Kia Niro EV will apparently give a third EV option to mass-market buyers.
As per a report in The Business Times, an unidentified source from Cycle & Carriage has said that the upcoming availability of the Niro EV in Singapore will also give a significant boost to Kia’s image as an EV maker. The source also said that the move reflects that Kia is capable of developing high technology, and has mastered the low-cost aspect for EVs.
Moreover, the source ahs also projected that the Niro EV will particularly be of great interest to fleet operators in Singapore, especially against the backdrop of the fact that the running and maintenance cost of EVs is comparatively much lower than those of fuel-powered cars.
The Kia Niro EV will be available in Singapore in two versions with different battery sizes, capable of offering a range of 450km or 300km on a single charge. The 204-horsepower motor of the EV will enable it to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 7.8 seconds.
