Nissan unveils ‘Sylphy Zero Emission’ --- its new LEAF-based electric car

Japanese automaker Nissan unveiled a new LEAF-based electric car -- the ‘Sylphy Zero Emission’ -- at the 2018 Auto China show in Beijing.

The ‘Sylphy Zero Emission’ was unveiled at the Auto Show by Nissan’s José Muñoz -- the automaker’s Chief Performance Officer and Chairman of the Management Committee for China -- who presented the vehicle as “Nissan’s first mass-production electric vehicle for the Chinese market.”

According to the information shared by Nissan, the ‘Sylphy Zero Emission’ electric car will go on sale during the later part of 2018.

Nissan said that the ‘Sylphy Zero Emission’ will offer “the stability and reliability of a full-size wheelbase.” Although the specifications of the vehicle’s powertrain have not been confirmed by the automaker, it said that the vehicle will have a 338-kilometer “extended drive range”, as per the official standards in China.

With Nissan revealing that the ‘Sylphy Zero Emission’ will inherit “the LEAF’s core technologies,” it is being assumed that the vehicle will have same electric drive unit as the LEAF as well as the same 40 kWh battery pack.

Stating that the ‘Sylphy Zero Emission’ marks the next step in Nissan’s electrification strategy for China, Muñoz, said that the new electric car is “one of the 20 electrified models that we plan to introduce over the next five years.”
