Norwegian transit operator Nobina orders 42 BYD articulated electric buses for Oslo
Recent reports from Norway have revealed that the country’s transit operator Nobina has placed two big orders with fast-growing Chinese automobile company BYD Auto for its new electric buses.
Nobina’s two orders pertain to a total of 42 units of 18-meter articulated electric buses manufactured by BYD. The articulated electric buses have been ordered by Nobina for Norway’s capital city, Oslo.
The 42 BYD electric buses will mark a new addition to BYD’s two pilot buses which have been operational in Oslo since December 2017.
According to reports, the BYD articulated electric buses will boast the capability for rooftop pantograph charging, which will enable the buses to get a recharge without manually plugging-in a charger. As such, when the electric buses need a recharge, they will simply have to pull up under a charging station --- for instance, at a bus depot or a bus stop.
With regard to the order for 42 BYD electric buses, Nobina’s Managing Director Jan Volsdal said that the company’s association with BYD will enable it to contribute to Oslo’s plans to run “a zero emission public transport system” in the coming decade.
Further adding that Nobina is confident that the new BYD electric bus fleet will “meet our expectations,” Volsdal said: “We have good experiences with the two BYD articulated buses that have been running in Oslo for half a year including the challenging winter months.”
