Schaeffler creates 880 kW all-electric racing car
German engineering and manufacturing group Schaeffler has added 4 Formula E electric motors and a battery pack to an Audi RS3, thereby creating an 880 kW all-electric racing car.
The vehicle created by Schaeffler has been named the ‘Schaeffler 4ePerformance.’
About the vehicle, Schaeffler’s Special Projects Motorsports Director Simon Opel said that the vehicle’s “free scaling options for the drive power” essentially make it “a test laboratory on wheels.”
According to the details shared by Schaeffler, the 4 Formula E electric motors which the company has added to Audi RS3 to create the ‘Schaeffler 4ePerformance’ vehicle are from the Abt Schaeffler FE01 Formula E racing car (season II). Each of the 4 motors provides a 220 kW power output, to give vehicle an overall power output of 880 kW.
The ‘Schaeffler 4ePerformance’ vehicle has an overall battery capacity of 64 kWh, thanks to its two battery packs. Though the vehicle has a modest range, it takes barely 7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 200 km/h.
Asserting that the modest range of the ‘Schaeffler 4ePerformance’ is enough for Schaeffler to carry out its tests, Opel said: “We are currently testing and developing our own driving dynamics control system, which is based on physical vehicle and wheel modeling.”
