Tesla begins delivery of Powerpacks for new energy project in Australia
According to recent reports, US electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors has started delivering Powerpacks for a new energy project in Australia.
The announcement that Tesla has commenced the delivery of Powerpacks for the new energy project was made recently by Australian Minister Lily D’Ambrosio, the Minister for Energy, Environment & Climate Change.
The new project for which Powerpacks are being delivered by Tesla is one of the energy projects for which the company had won a contract after the successful deployment of its massive 100MW/129MWh Powerpack project in South Australia. The earlier implemented giant Tesla battery project came online in December 2017.
Although the new project is not as gigantic as Tesla’s Powerpack project in South Australia, it is still a notably big 25 MW / 50 MWh battery system which is being deployed in Victoria. The battery system will be co-located and integrated with the already-operational 60 MW Gannawarra Solar Farm near Kerang, Victoria.
The new large battery project is the first of the two large-scale, grid-connected batteries which will be a part of the Victorian energy storage initiative. The deployment of the two large-scale batteries is to be jointly funded -- with a $25 million investment each -- by the Victorian Government and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
