Tesla Model 3 reportedly outsold BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class in California in Q1 2018
According to a recently released report based on new vehicle registrations, Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling car in the ‘mid-size premium sedan’ segment -- electric and other vehicles included -- in California during the first quarter of 2018.
The report has revealed that as per the new registration figures, the first-quarter sales of Tesla Model 3 in California beat the sales of BMW 3-Series as well as Mercedes C-Class. Tesla Model 3 has over half million pending bookings and the company hasn’t been able to meet consumer demand. If Tesla Motors manages to improve production numbers for Model 3, it could lead sales charts for many quarters.
Going by the figures shared by the California New Car Dealers Association (CNCDA), 3,723 units of Tesla Model 3 were registered between January and March 2018. The figures have pushed Model 3 to the top of what is referred to as the ‘near luxury’ segment.
The best-selling performance of Tesla Model 3 in California in the January-March quarter underscores the fact that Tesla is well on its way to becoming the best-selling mid-size premium sedan, electric or not, in the US market. The company had claimed a few weeks back that its Model 3 would soon be the best seller in the mentioned segment.
With Tesla Model 3 outselling BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class in California in the first quarter, it is evident that the electric car may become the best seller in its segment in the US at a much faster pace than Tesla’s production of the car in high volumes.
